Juliana Teles Gassaway
Coach Juliana is only 23 years old and is originally from Brazil. She started training in 2012 as part of a social program in Estancia, a very small town in the state of Sergipe Brazil. She grew up as a tomboy and was bullied in school for wanting to play sports instead of traditional female activities. She started training to help deal the stress of being bullied as well as that of being a teenager. She credits her Jiu-Jitsu with her ability to overcome a lot of emotional instability in her teenager years by giving her another direction and focus. She would especially focus on her training whenever dealing with the adversities of life. She started competing at white belt and even though she didn't win she continued to train and compete even more. Over the last several years she has medaled at countless international competitions and in 2019 she placed 3rd at the IBJJF World Championships. Juliana’s experience in competing has taught her more not only about martial arts but also about how to deal with everyday situations in her personal life. She loves competing, teaching and the way that Jiu-Jitsu challenges us to better ourselves and to continue learning every day.
